From quantitative science to medicine
I began in data science and genetics, then worked with real-world healthcare data before commencing medicine. That path now informs how I think about clinical evidence, teaching and a future in academic surgery.

I am a Doctor of Medicine student at the University of Sydney, based at Westmead Clinical School. Before medicine, I completed a Bachelor of Science with majors in Data Science and Genetics & Genomics. That training gave me an early interest in how evidence is constructed—and how quantitative work can clarify difficult questions without flattening their clinical context.
Prior to commencing medicine, I worked at AstraZeneca applying statistical and computational methods to real-world healthcare data across multiple therapeutic areas. That experience made the strengths and limits of routinely collected data tangible: useful analysis depends as much on understanding context, measurement and uncertainty as it does on selecting a method.
The thread between the work
Across data science, teaching and medicine, I keep returning to the same problem: how evidence is produced, interpreted and used. Quantitative methods are valuable when they sharpen a real question, make uncertainty visible and lead to conclusions that remain proportionate to the data.
Teaching as academic practice
I teach undergraduate data science and statistics as a Casual Academic in the University of Sydney’s School of Mathematics and Statistics. I am most interested in helping students move beyond procedural answers—to ask what a result means, which assumptions support it, and how another person could reproduce the work.
Academic direction
My academic interests are increasingly focused on surgery and urology. I am particularly interested in urological oncology, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and the use of clinical data to study treatment selection, perioperative outcomes and patient recovery. I hope to pursue a future career as an academic surgeon.
As a Surgical Research Scholar with RISE, I am developing experience in collaborative surgical research through a mentor and project matched to my interest in urology.
Academic community
Teaching and service are part of the same academic outlook. Alongside research and teaching, I have held senior leadership and governance roles across major student organisations and University structures. Those experiences have shaped my interest in how academic institutions create opportunities and make serious student participation possible.
I am particularly interested in strengthening pathways into research during medical school and the prevocational years, so students and junior doctors can contribute meaningfully to academic work while developing the next generation of clinician-scientists.
